A 200g piece of ice at -10 deg. C is placed in 200 g of water at 50 deg. C. After a few minutes the ice-water mixture reaches thermal equilibrium. How much water is there in the mixture now?

I'm not sure if I have to use the formula for latent heat of vapourization or not.
Thanks!

I would use the latent heat of fusion for ice. Latent heat of vaporisation is for liquid changing into a gas. The only way that the ice-water can be equilibrium will be when they are both at 0 deg C.
The heat lost by the water will be
Q_lost=m_water * C_water * 50

while heat gained by the ice will be because of the latent heat to reach 0 deg C.

Q_gain = m_ice * L_ice * 10

The energy lost by water = energy gained by the ice . Solve for the mass of ice. The mass of water in kg will be 0.2 + (0.2 - mass of ice).
