 Posted: Mon Sep 17, 2012 8:02 pm    Post subject: Find the height that a balloon rises. How high will a hot air balloon rise if the temperature inside is maintained at 345 K? Assume that the ambient temperature is 300 K. Assume that the pressure inside and outside are the same, but the density inside is reduced by heating. It is convenient to reference the calculation to the temperature of the atmosphere T0 = 300 K. This temperature corresponds to the density at sea level. To what height does the air balloon rise? The Barometric Pressure formula is P=P0exp-(Mgh/RT) Average molar mass of atmosphere is 0.029 kg/mol I solved for H in the equation using P as 1.15 atm. I used 1 atm for P0. I used the fact that Pi/Ti=Pf/Tf to solve for P The R value that I used was 8.314 J/(mol*k) The H value that i got was 1410 m. This was not correct. Any help to where I might have messed up would be greatly appreciated.
